Youre a shiny object

Don’t forget who YOU are!

For those of you struggling a bit with self worth; You have so much to offer this big, crazy world. When you are misunderstood, passed over and picked last, don’t forget who you are. When the phone doesn’t ring, the invitation doesn’t come, don’t forget who you are.  Just because someone else is blind and doesn’t see how special you are and what you have to offer doesn’t mean they are right about you!

I didn’t always see it that way, I forgot who I was for a long time. It began in 5th grade when softball season started. I wanted to play so badly but I was the awkward girl with very few friends. I couldn’t catch or throw or run very fast, so of course I was picked last. And as the girl that was picked last for many things well into my adult years I understand the sting of being left out.

Forty years later I’ve come to realize people are very distracted and so caught up in their “own stuff” that they aren’t even paying attention to what is going on around them and the fact they could completely change the world for someone with a simple kind gesture. It may start on the softball field but it carries over to the boardroom and the women’s club and every arena in-between.

The opportunities to change the world by one small act of inclusion are countless. An invitation to join the group for lunch could shift the office dynamics so strongly that moral is up, and when morale is up, productivity is up. The crazy thing about all this fitting in and belonging is that 99.99% of the time it isn’t even about us. It’s all the pressure people buy into about how to fit in and they end up missing the proverbial party.

So here’s my late bloomer advice to you{yeah I finally realized it’s not about me, it’s about clueless them}

  • Don’t ever stop believing in yourself.
  • Don’t ever stop dreaming.
  • Don’t ever give up on the things that matter to you.
  • Don’t lose your voice to speak truth.
  • Don’t lose your belief in love.
  • Don’t compromise your core values.
  • Don’t ever stop doing what makes your heart sing.
  • Don’t ever give up on others.

You’re not an “easy out”

And here’s how softball season wrapped up for me; I was picked last again and again but that last fifth grade game when Ronnie Wolfswinkle said,”easy out” when I stepped up to bat and all his friends moved in close…I got lucky and hit a homerun! I will never forget that day and how it felt to prove to them I wasn’t an “easy out”! You’re not an easy out either and you and I never will be.  Don’t forget who you are and don’t ever give up on yourself!
